Guadalcanal

Lecturing in Guadalcanal

During a visit to Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, we had the opportunity to present a lecture to the Solomon Government at the Rock Haven Hotel. The focus of the discussion was on butterfly breeding and the importance of conserving natural resources in the face of growing threats from logging and Palm Oil companies.

Guadalcanal, with its rich biodiversity, is home to a wide variety of butterfly species, many of which are under pressure due to habitat loss.

Butterfly Breeding and Conservation

In our lecture, we emphasised the need for sustainable practices, highlighting how butterfly breeding can play a crucial role in both conservation and economic opportunities for local communities.

Our Research

By promoting the protection of key habitats and reducing the impact of industrial activities, we aimed to preserve these delicate ecosystems while fostering environmental awareness. It was an important dialogue on the balance between development and nature, with butterflies at the heart of the conversation.
