Punta Indio

Morpho Epistrophus

Punta Indio, located on the mouth of the River Plate (Río de la Plata) in Argentina, is a remarkable destination known for its biodiversity and beauty. It is also home to the striking white Morpho butterfly, Morpho Epistrophus, which is a rare and captivating species.

These butterflies, with their delicate white wings and shimmering patterns, are truly a sight to behold, fluttering through the subtropical environment of Punta Indio.

Breeding Techniques

On a visit the previous year, we had the privilege of working alongside some great friends, collecting the host plant crucial for the breeding of Morpho Epistrophus. Our goal was to observe and gather females, with the intention of developing successful breeding programs.

Our Research

By carefully studying their natural habitat and feeding habits, we were able to enhance our understanding of their life cycle and breeding behaviours. This hands-on research has contributed to the ongoing efforts to sustain and protect this beautiful butterfly species in the wild and in controlled environments.
