In Search of Graphium Codrus on Malaita Island

One of my most memorable excursions took me to Malaita Island in the Solomon Islands, where I embarked on a quest to find the elusive Graphium Codrus butterfly.

Known for its striking black and green wings, this butterfly is a prized species, not only for its beauty but also for its rarity.

The Journey

Malaita’s dense, untamed rainforests provide the perfect habitat for Graphium Codrus, but tracking down this remarkable species in such a remote location was no easy task.

The journey through Malaita’s lush landscape was a true adventure. The island's rich biodiversity and untouched forests are ideal for butterflies like Graphium Codrus, but also make it challenging to navigate.

Our Research

Despite the rugged terrain, spotting this butterfly in its natural habitat was a rewarding experience, reinforcing the importance of preserving these fragile ecosystems where such rare species can continue to thrive.
